Hong Kong’s young math geniuses have taken the world by storm. They’ve crushed the competition at the International Math Open for Young Achievers 2024 (IMOYA 2024). The results will be officially announced on October 20, 2024, at SAFRA Mount Faber in Singapore.

The Hong Kong team proved unstoppable in the team contest. They clinched the one and only championship in the team category. They beat out 13 other teams to claim the top spot. This extraordinary feat was achieved by three remarkable students. Mak Wai Hang Kolson from Hon Wah College, Ho Tsz Hang Sky from Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School, and Sim Lui Yee Edelweiss from Maryknoll Convent School joined forces to secure this exclusive victory.

Individually, two students stood out from the pack. Kolson and Sky each snagged gold medals. They also scored the highest in their grades. Kolson, a Grade 7 student, showed off his amazing problem-solving skills. Sky, a Grade 8 student, wowed judges with his analytical abilities.

IMOYA 2024 is no small-time event. It brings together the brightest young math minds from around the globe. This year, countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Bulgaria, Taiwan, Macau, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and South Africa all sent their best and brightest to compete in various modes.
